The Revue announces auditions & audition workshop for Disney’s Peter Pan Jr

Auditions for The Revue Children’s Theater production of Disney’s Peter Pan Jr will be held on Monday, February 23 for grades 3-5, and Wednesday, February 25 for grades 6-8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Street Theatre, 301 N Main Street in Nashville.

Based on the Disney film and J.M. Barrie’s enchanting play, Disney’s Peter Pan JR. is a modern version of the timeless tale about a boy who wouldn’t grow up. The score includes new arrangements of classic Disney songs, such as “Following the Leader,” “You Can Fly,” “The Second Star to the Right” and “Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me.”  Wendy Darling loves to tell stories to her brothers, Michael and John. But when her father announces she must move out of the nursery, Peter Pan comes to visit the children and whisks them away to Never Land. Their adventure introduces them to the Lost Boys, Mermaids, Indians and even the infamous pirate, Captain Hook.

Rehearsals will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Wednesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 beginning Monday, March 2.  Rehearsal times will be extended closer to performance weekend.  The cast will include between fifty and seventy 3rd – 8th graders.  A portion of the cast will be “double cast” and perform a single weekend of shows only.  Performances are May 1-3 & 8-10.  On Friday May 1 & May 8, matinees are performed for local schools in addition to an evening performance.

For those who are interested, The Revue will hold an optional audition workshop on Saturday, February 21 from 2:00 – 4:00.  The workshop will take place at the Main Street Theatre, 301 N Main Street, Nashville.  Children in grades 3 through 8 are invited to attend the workshop to learn more about the show and the audition process.  During the 2 hour session, the kids will learn a song from the show that will be used at auditions, get tips on how to do a good audition, and will also take part in improvisational drama games.  There is no charge for the workshop.

On audition night, please arrive a few minutes early to fill out an audition form.  Please be prepared to provide a current photo of the child auditioning.   Children will be called in groups of 5 or 6 to learn a portion of one of the songs and sing for the director, music director, and producer.  Some children will be asked to stay until the end to read from the script and possibly sing again.

Each child cast in the show will be required to pay a $35 participation fee. This fee, to be collected at the first rehearsal, will cover a rehearsal CD, a souvenir short sleeve t-shirt, and a script that is theirs to keep.  There will be a discount for families with more than one child participating.

The Main Street Theatre is located in downtown Nashville, on the corner of Washington and Main Street.  Use the side entrance off Washington Street.  On audition night, everyone will gather in the banquet room on the main level.
